24th July COVID News
The following letter is today circulated to the leaders of all organisations using the church premises so as to ensure the continuing safety of our church community. We trust that all who use our building will understand and accept the need for ongoing vigilance.
For you were called to freedom…only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through love become slaves to one another.” (Gal 5:13 NRSV)
All who gather at Allerton United Reformed Church,
Greetings to you in the name of Jesus Christ!
We are entering into a new stage in our common effort to create safer spaces in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. It is important that we think individually about what it means to “love our neighbour” now. Whilst many would suggest we are now free from all restrictions, the question remains - what is our response in light of rising infections?
Your Elders met twenty-first July to consider how we carry out our Christian responsibility to each other with no legal restrictions. Consequently, some protective suggestions were given for the continuing life of our community and all those who gather at Allerton URC.
For the time being we will continue to strongly encourage congregating groups and gatherings indoors to wear face coverings. We know that the longer we are in closed rooms, the greater the build-up of the virus and therefore risk of transmission, even to those who are vaccinated. If at all possible, ventilation can help make indoor spaces safer.
Please consider maintaining hand hygiene, especially as hand shaking comes back into regular practice. Please keep a safe distance as there are vulnerabilities with others both known and unknown. It is vitally important that our spaces are safe for those who attend and those who work in our building. Bubbles can gather closely. Simply respect and be courteous to each other.
We will continue to keep a record of those who attend in case there is a transmission or exposure. We urge community groups using our facilities to do likewise. We will continue the one-way system for entering and departing the church until statistics deem the practice unhelpful.
We are blessed at Allerton URC to have an excellent cleaning regime and top-notch custodial staff. The church is committed to maintaining high standards of hygiene. However, we urge everyone to do their part in keeping our accommodating spaces tidy.
We at AURC respect every individual’s right to choose how they respond at this present stage. However, we encourage people to get fully vaccinated unless there are medical reasons why they should not. We must therefore each take responsibility to do our part in keeping other people safe.
The Elders will be reviewing monthly these suggestions and revising them as our duty of care on this matter decreases or increases. Use common sense, respect each other and hopefully our love will make us free to live fully.
Praying and hoping,
Tim Meadows +
